Walked into a remodel job that had a Ring system installed by the homeowner last week

The before was a clean panel and wired sensors. The after was a mess of loose wires, dead batteries in 3 window contacts, and the alarm didn't even trigger when I cut the phone line. Two years of DIY neglect. Has anyone else seen a homeowner install age that badly?

two years of DIY neglect" yeah that tracks. I had a similar mess where the homeowner had taped over the transformer instead of mounting it. What worked for me was just stripping it all down and treating it like a fresh install, then showing them the side by side photos of before and after. Usually helps them understand why the cheap quick fixes dont last.

Taking photos side by side is genius for that conversation. Nothing makes a homeowner realize their 'helpful friend' hack was a disaster faster than a clean before and after shot of the panel.

Buddy of mine had a guy swear his "custom" zip tie setup was better than any panel mount... until the tie snapped and the transformer dropped into an insulation pile. The before and after photos basically sold the homeowner on a full rewire.
