Headed out to Marfa last spring and saw something weird near the observatory at 2 AM

I was out there with a buddy just stargazing near the McDonald Observatory around 2 AM. We saw this light that didn't move like a plane or a drone, it just hovered and then shot straight up way too fast. It was totally silent and there was no wind that night so we ruled out a balloon or something. Has anyone else seen weird lights out in West Texas or is it just the isolation messing with your head?

You said "military drones" but those things are loud as hell. Jets too. What you saw was silent, so it's definitely not military aircraft. Maybe try checking flight radar next time to see if anything weird pops up.

Did you check if it was military drones? I swear I saw the same thing near Alpine.

You said "flight radar" but radar doesn't catch everything. I've seen lights like that near El Paso and it was for sure a weather balloon.
