My friend swore by watching dubbed anime at double speed to save time

Last year my buddy Mark told me he watches every new season on 2x speed with English dubs so he can finish a 12 episode show in under 3 hours. I tried it with My Hero Academia and ended up missing half the plot points because the voices sounded like chipmunks on caffeine. Has anyone else attempted speed watching and actually enjoyed it?

oh man i feel you so hard on this. my buddy tried to convince me the same thing with one punch man and i ended up pausing every five seconds because i had no idea what was happening. the chipmunk thing is real, i swear the fights just looked like a blur of colors and i missed saitama's whole deal. its like watching fast forwarded soap operas from the 90s. you end up getting the gist but all the little moments that make the show good just fly right past you.

Ngl you hit the nail on the head with the wiki summary thing. Honestly at that point you're just watching a slideshow with sound effects. Tbh I think a lot of these fast-paced anime are designed for binge-watching on a second screen while you scroll through your phone. You catch the big moments but miss all the character stuff that makes you actually care. It's like they're banking on the hype of the fights to carry the whole show but forget that slowing down for a second builds tension. Every time I try to watch something like that I end up just reading a plot recap online and calling it a day.
