Subbed vs dubbed clicked for me after watching this one 2011 show

I always stuck with dubbed because I could multitask while watching. Then last week I tried a subbed rewatch of Steins;Gate and caught way more of the joke timing and character beats. The voice actors in the original really sold the panic scenes in a way the dub just smoothed over. Now I'm going back through my backlog and rewatching in sub, probably 15 series so far on my list. Anyone else flip sides after one specific show, or am I just late to the party?

God yes, same here! I was the exact same way for years, always picking dub just so I could clean or scroll on my phone at the same time. Then I watched this older mecha show subbed on a whim and it totally broke my brain. The main character's voice actor put so much raw emotion into the quiet moments that I literally stopped cleaning and just stared at the screen. Now I have like 20 shows on my rewatch list and I can't even go back to dub for the ones I loved before. It's a whole different show when you actually pay attention to the acting.

Man, that hits hard. My buddy @lily_torres31 went through the same thing last year, tried a subbed show on a dare and now he's got a spreadsheet tracking voice actors. He swears he heard the actual pain in a death scene and I thought he was messing with me, but then he played it side by side with the dub and yeah, it's just different.
