Fixing my own car with YouTube in 20 minutes, after paying $300 for a 'diagnostic'
My check engine light popped on Tuesday, and the shop quoted me $300 just to tell me what was wrong, so I grabbed my OBD2 reader and watched a 12 minute video from a guy in Tulsa. Turned out it was a $14 oxygen sensor swap I did in my driveway with a crescent wrench and some elbow grease. Has anyone else ditched the repair shop after seeing how simple some of these fixes actually are?

O2 sensors are usually the easy way out, wait till it's an actual wiring issue.

Heard a buddy say the same thing about his alternator. YouTube had him convinced it was a 10 minute job, turned out he needed a puller and three hours of cussing. Easy wins are nice, but the real money is when it's not just a sensor.
