Just realized you can fix a torn pocket on a work jacket with a piece of denim and a sewing awl, no machine needed

I had a rip on the inside pocket of my Carhartt jacket that kept swallowing my keys. Tried using fabric glue twice and it peeled off within a week. Then I cut a small patch from an old pair of jeans I was about to trash, used a basic sewing awl I got for $8, and stitched it on in about 20 minutes. That patch has held up through three wash cycles already. Anyone else find a quick fix that saved them from buying a replacement?

That's exactly the kind of fix that makes sense. Why drop sixty bucks on a new jacket when a scrap of denim and ten minutes of work does the trick? Sewing awls are underrated, most people don't realize how much they can handle. Your patch will probably outlast the rest of the jacket at this point.

Did you catch that video going around about the guy who fixed his car's bumper with zip ties and a heat gun? Stuff like that and patching clothes with denim proves you don't always need new gear. I swear, half the time a patch like yours holds up better than the original fabric because the denim is already broken in. My buddy fixed a tear in his work pants with a similar scrap and it's been three winters and still going strong. People sleep on how much a little hand stitching can save you.

@lily57 ngl i used to be the type to just toss stuff and buy new, but seeing stuff like that car bumper fix and now your patch job totally changed my mind. it's wild how much you can save with a little diy effort, right?
