Unpopular opinion: that cashier at Home Depot was right to call me out
I was buying 10 bags of mulch last spring and complaining about the price, and the cashier just said 'you know you're paying for convenience, not quality.' Stuck with me because she was right - the $2.50 bag from the big box store fell apart after one rain. Anyone else had a stranger give you real talk like that?

Bold move calling out the customer instead of just scanning and moving on. I half expected her to whip out a whiteboard and start a full seminar on the economics of bagged dirt. Next time I’ll bring my own grocery bags and a shovel to really maximize my savings. But seriously, she wasn't wrong. That mulch probably evaporated faster than my motivation to garden again.

Wait, that was mulch not dirt... big difference in how it breaks down.

Hate to be that person but mulch actually does break down faster than dirt in a lot of cases, especially the dyed stuff they sell cheap. It's basically just shredded wood that rots quick if it gets wet. So yeah she was right on that point but the whole cashier rant thing was still a bit much. Mulch decomposes and turns into soil over time anyway, so calling it "evaporating" was funny but not quite accurate.
