That week every photo I took looked like dirty glass, then I finally cleaned my sensor properly.
I spent last Thursday through Sunday blaming my lens for weird fuzzy spots on every shot of the Orion Nebula, then a guy on a forum said $8 sensor swabs and 5 minutes of work turned my $800 camera body back into a $800 camera body, anyone else put off cleaning their sensor for way too long?

Oh man, I'm going to push back a little here. I've been down that road and honestly those sensor swabs are fine for dust but if you have sticky residue or oil spots you're just smearing it around. Took me three passes with a wet swab to realize I needed to send my camera in for a proper clean by someone who knows what they're doing. Now I'm out $8 plus the cost of shipping to a repair shop.

@pat781 that "smearing it around" reminds me of the time I tried cleaning a greasy oven hood with just a paper towel, @sean_green44 would've laughed at that mess too.

Man isn't that just the story of modern life though, where we think a quick fix will save us time but it just ends up costing more in the long run. It's like trying to patch a tire with duct tape or fixing a leaky pipe with a prayer, you know every little shortcut has a way of biting you later. Feels like we're all just paying the "I should have done it right the first time" tax sooner or later.
