Got tired of water spots on my truck after every rain, tried a ceramic spray coating I saw at AutoZone near Phoenix last month
I always figured those $30 spray ceramic coatings were just snake oil, but after 3 washes in a row where I had to re-dry the whole hood to avoid spots, I caved. Sprayed Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions onto my 2012 Silverado after a wash, buffed it off with a microfiber towel, and it took maybe 20 minutes total. Three weeks later and the rain just beads off, no spotting, even after sitting in the sun. Anybody else try this stuff or have a cheaper DIY option that actually holds up?

That Turtle Wax stuff is just a temporary band-aid hiding the real issue.

Temporary fixes can actually tell you a lot about where the real damage is coming from though. If the Turtle Wax holds up for a month before the issue comes back, you know its something environmental like sun or salt. But if it fails in a week, you got a chemical reaction happening with whatever sealant the factory used. Nobody ever talks about using test products to diagnose the actual problem instead of just covering it up.

Casey's right that it's a band-aid but sometimes you just need a quick fix that Actually works. I did the same thing on my Tacoma after monsoon season wrecked my paint and the beading lasted almost 2 months before needing a re-spray. For $15 and 20 minutes it beats scrubbing waterspots every single weekend.
