I spent 4 hours trying to remove tree sap from my windshield and it still looks terrible

I parked under a pine tree for just two days last week, figured it would be fine. But that sap baked on in the sun and turned into little hard yellow spots. I tried soap, vinegar, even a razor blade and it barely touched it. Is there some trick I'm missing to get this stuff off without ruining the glass?

Dude I feel your pain so hard. I parked under an oak tree for one afternoon at my buddy Carlos's house and ended up with the same sticky nightmare. I tried that Goo Gone spray and it did nothing, just smeared the sap around worse. What finally worked for me was rubbing alcohol and a microfiber towel. I soaked a cloth in it and let it sit on the spots for like 10 minutes, then wiped gently. It took three or four tries on the worst ones but they came off without scratching anything. Also tried a clay bar kit from AutoZone after that and it cleaned up the rest of the haze.

Boy do I know that feeling. I had a similar mess last summer after a day at my sister's place out in the country. Her driveway has this big maple tree and I didn't think twice about parking under it. Got back home and the whole hood and roof felt like sticky syrup. I tried dish soap first, then even WD-40, which just made everything smell like a garage. Finally broke down and used straight nail polish remover with acetone on a cotton ball, real careful like, and it took the sap right off. Had to wash and wax the car right after though, otherwise the paint looked dull for weeks.

Did you have to be super gentle with the clay bar after the alcohol, or did it just glide over everything once the sap was gone?
