Hit 100,000 miles on my '04 F-150 yesterday - never made it that far before
I rolled over 100,000 miles on my old work truck yesterday. That's the highest I've ever gotten on any vehicle I've owned. Usually something major gives out around 80k or 90k, like a transmission or a timing chain. This thing still has the original alternator and starter. I'm wondering if it's just luck or if that era of Ford trucks was really built different. Has anyone else had a truck or car go way longer than you expected without major issues?

Haven't you just been lucky so far? Those early 2000s Fords had plenty of issues like the spark plugs blowing out and cam phaser problems, might be better to sell it while you're ahead.

I actually read a mechanic's blog a while back that said those early 2000s Fords can be hit or miss, @jana881, but I've heard the 4.6L V8 was one of the more reliable engines in them. Might be why mine's held up so far, fingers crossed.

Wait, cam phaser problems on a 2000s Ford? I thought that was more of a 5.4L Triton thing, not the regular 4.6. My buddy had a 2004 Crown Vic with the 4.6 and never had that issue, but yeah those 2 valve spark plugs blowing out was a real pain, had to helicoil a few heads for people back when I was wrenching. I'd be careful if it's a 3 valve motor, those were the real troublemakers with the phasers and whatnot.
