Tried a new rust converter on a '98 Tacoma frame and it totally backfired

Honestly, I used this stuff called Evapo-Rust Gel on a really bad spot near the rear leaf spring mounts. After 24 hours it turned the surface black like it should, but when I hit it with a wire wheel, the metal underneath was still soft and flaky. Ngl, I learned that some products just can't handle deep scale, and now I'm back to grinding it all out. Has anyone found a converter that actually works on severe rot, or is cutting and welding the only real fix?

Yep, same thing happened on my Jeep. Total waste of time.

Ever try a needle scaler before the converter? @daniel_gonzalez, I had the same issue until I started using one to really clean the pits out. That prep made the Ospho actually work and stick around.

Been there with my old Ranger. Gel converters just can't get into the deep pits. I had to cut out a section and weld in new metal. For the less severe areas, I switched to using a needle scaler first, then Ospho, and it held up much better. The scaler gets down to solid metal the wire wheel misses.
