Switched from assembly line work to fixing the robots that took my spot.
I was scared of losing my job to automation, so I trained to maintain the machines. Now I have more job security and less worry.

Wait a minute... that's smart for you, but it's still a net loss, right? The robot took one job, and you got one job fixing it. But what about the other nine people on the line who didn't get that training spot? Their jobs are just gone for good. You're the exception that proves the rule, kinda... it's good for you, but the math still worries me for everyone else.

Push for cross-training the second automation talks start. We got our plant to train a whole team on robot upkeep, not just one guy. That opened up jobs in calibration and supply chain tracking nobody saw coming. It won't bring back all the old jobs, but it spreads the new work around. Always demand to see the plan for new roles before the bots arrive. They only save jobs if people fight for it early.

Man, that whole line of thinking just reminds me of when our town library got those self-checkout machines. They said it would free up the librarians to help people more with real questions. Now the place feels empty most days, and if you do need help, there's only one person at a desk who looks totally swamped. Funny how one fix for a small problem just makes a bigger, different problem somewhere else.
