Vent: What a customer taught me about SaaS billing yesterday
I was helping a guy who runs a small logistics company and he showed me his recurring billing setup. He had this whole mess of manual invoice adjustments every month because the system didn't handle overages right. It hit me that I'd been ignoring how our own ops tools create friction for end users. Has anyone else had a customer point out a blind spot in how you handle usage-based pricing?

Actually I think the whole "pay for stuff you barely use" thing is a little off base... most SaaS tools these days actually let you pick your tier pretty carefully. The real problem is when you hit overages and the system just slaps you with a giant bill at the end of the month with no warning. That guy with the logistics company probably could've saved a ton of headache if his billing setup sent alerts when usage was getting close to the limit... instead of making him dig through invoices afterward. I've seen a few tools that let you set custom thresholds for when overages kick in but they're usually buried in settings nobody touches.

Did you end up finding a tool that actually handles overages cleanly?

Haven't found a perfect one yet, but it feels like a lot of software just passes the problem along instead of fixing it. Kinda like how every new app makes you pay for stuff you barely use.
