A client in Dallas said our proposal was 'all fluff, no numbers' so I cut it from 12 pages to 3
Turns out the VP just wanted the pricing table, the timeline, and two case studies, and we closed the deal in 9 days instead of the usual 6 week back and forth, has anyone else had a client tell them to just cut the fluff?
Man, I used to fight this so hard. I spent years building these long proposals because I thought more pages meant more value, like the client would see all that work and be impressed. Then I had a guy tell me flat out he stopped reading after page two because he couldn't find the price. That was a wake up call. Now I lead with the numbers and keep the rest tight, and honestly my close rate went up. The fluff was never selling anything, it was just me covering my own back. How long did it take you to get your team on board with the shorter version?
