Dumb sales advice almost cost me a $50k contract

My old boss told me to never follow up more than twice with a prospect. Said it looks desperate. I listened for 6 months and lost two big deals because the buyers told me later they just got busy and forgot. Finally ignored him and called a guy in Austin 4 times before he picked up. He signed a $50k contract on that call. Has anyone else had to unlearn bad advice from someone who seemed like they knew what they were talking about?

Learned that lesson myself after stalking a VP for six weeks.

Blown a red light and realized everyone else treats them more like suggestions, right? Honestly, that advice is everywhere not just in sales. People love telling you what's "professional" when really they're just scared of looking foolish. Glad you trusted your gut over his rent check advice.

Never follow up more than twice" - sounds like advice from someone who's never had to pay rent.
