Borrowed 'Maus' from the library to see what the fuss was about, ended up reading it cover to cover in my car during my lunch break because I couldn't put it down.

I was expecting the whole thing to be super dark and depressing but honestly the way Art Spiegelman drew the mice and cats made it way easier to digest while still hitting you right in the gut, has anyone else found a banned book that wasn't nearly as scary as people made it sound?

Maus got me so bad I almost cried into my sandwich at the library parking lot.

Wait, was it the sandwich getting emotional or you? Either way, that's a rough place to have a breakdown.

Right, so many people hear "graphic novel about the Holocaust" and think it's going to be this unbearable wall of sadness, but the animal faces actually give your brain a little breathing room to handle the real weight of the story. Makes you wonder how many other "forbidden" books use a clever style to sneak their punch right past your defenses.
