Library banned a kids book about dinosaurs and it made me rethink everything

I used to think book bans were overblown until my local library pulled a dinosaur book because it mentioned evolution - saw a parent complain about it at a school board meeting and realized how fast this stuff spreads. Has anyone else had a local ban that seemed way too petty?

Saw a news piece recently about a school district in Texas that banned a book about a penguin family with two dads. It's just a simple kids story about love and family, nothing wild. Hard to believe we're still fighting over stuff like that in 2024, feels pretty backwards to me.

Can't wrap my head around banning a book about penguins. Feels like we're fighting the same fights from 20 years ago.

Man, I've seen this play out too. In my experience, the best way to handle it is just to check the book out yourself and read it to your kid at home. That way you control what they see, and nobody else gets to decide for you. It worked for me when a couple of my neighbors got weird about a history book.
