Found out my clipper blades were dulling 3x faster because of how I store them

Honestly, I was cleaning out my drawer last week and found an old blade I left loose in a plastic bag. I looked it up and apparently storing blades touching each other or in damp places ruins the edge way quicker. I've been losing about 2 months of sharpness per blade just from poor storage. Has anyone else noticed their blades dying faster than they should?

Well isn't that something. I had the exact same problem with my kitchen shears last year. I kept them in a drawer with other tools and they got notches and tiny dings on the edge within a few months. I switched to a magnetic strip on the wall and suddenly the same pair of scissors is still sharp after almost a year. Never thought about simple contact with other metal being the problem. It makes sense though, like how you wouldn't toss a good knife in a drawer with spoons.

Honestly this is one of those things that shows up everywhere once you start looking. It's like how people throw their phone in a bag with keys and loose change and then wonder why the screen gets scratched up after a few months. We just don't think about how small amounts of friction and contact add up over time, especially with metal on metal. Same thing happens with good pans if you stack them without a cloth or paper towel in between. That nonstick coating gets wrecked way faster than people realize. Tbh it's kind of wild how many small habits we have that slowly mess up our stuff without us noticing.

Contact with other metal being the problem," exactly right @river952, it's like leaving a good chef knife loose in a drawer with forks.
