Spent 4 hours trying to chase a creak on a customer's bike last week

Tightened everything, regreased the seatpost, swapped pedals, and it was the friggin derailleur hanger bolt loose. Anyone else have a simple fix that took way too long to find?

Tightened every bolt on my own bike once trying to stop a rattle and it turned out to be the valve stem cap just vibrating against the rim tape. Nothing makes you feel quite as dumb as finding it after two hours of wrenching.

Wait, the valve stem cap? That's the plastic screw-on thing? I can't believe that made enough noise to sound like a loose bolt

Plastic screw-on thing" - yeah that's the one. I had a similar moment where I thought my radiator fan was about to fly off the car, spent a whole lunch break chasing the noise. Turned out it was a loose penny I'd dropped under the seat that was just sliding back and forth every time I turned a corner. Funny how the simplest stuff can have you chasing your tail for hours.
