Am I the only one who ignored coal grading for years?

Always thought any lump coal worked fine. Then I grabbed a bag of low-sulfur anthracite from a guy at a swap meet. He said it burns way hotter with less clinker. Tried it last Tuesday. Forge hit welding heat in half the time. No more fighting slag build up every ten minutes. Who else pays attention to coal type or just grabs whatever?

Buddy of mine bought random bituminous for years then tried a specific blend and cleaned his firepot twice a night instead of every hour.

Tried some anthracite once and my buddy said his stove ran like a dream for a full week straight.

Hold on, are you sure he meant it ran for a full week straight on one load? Anthracite burns super hot and slow, but most stoves still need to be cleaned out and refilled at least once a day. I've burned a lot of it in my place and I'm lucky if I can get a solid 24 hours before the ash pan needs dumping, even with a big hopper. Don't want your buddy to get the wrong idea and end up with a cold house.
