I was dead set on picking books by vote, until our tiny 4 person group in Boise tried picking by rotation instead
Our club has been voting on every pick for about 3 years, and I always figured that was the fair way to do it. But last month in Boise we had two people push a 500 page history book through by teaming up, and the other two of us didn't finish it. So we tried a rotation for the next 3 picks, one person chooses, no vote, and everyone else just has to read it. I thought it would flop hard. It was better by a mile. People actually showed up with stuff to say, because the person who picked it cared enough to bring notes and questions. Turns out the vote was letting us all coast. Now I'm the annoying one asking if we should keep rotating. Has any club out there tried both and gone back to voting?
