My librarian said something about our book club picking 'important' books and it's bugging me 3 weeks later
She told me at the Cedar Rapids library that our group keeps choosing books to impress each other instead of books we actually want to talk about, and honestly she nailed it. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a club member (or bystander) call out the book picks like that?
So what did your group actually pick last time, and did you really finish it or just say you did? Because there's a big gap between reading a book and reading it just to look smart at the meeting. Was it something like a 900 page history book nobody touched past chapter two? And when she called it out, did the other members agree or get weird about it? That part matters more than the call out itself.
