Why does nobody talk about how book clubs pick novels nobody actually finishes?
I visited three different book clubs in Portland last month and every single one admitted half the members stopped reading halfway through, so why are we all pretending we finished the book?

Does it really matter if people finish the book though? Half the fun is just getting together to talk about it, at least you got an excuse to see people.

half the fun is just getting together" - yeah saw a study saying socializing beats book completion every time, @nguyen.angela.

Tbh I started a book club where we just watch the movie instead and @the_terry that worked way better.

Oh man I literally just read that same study! It said something like 70 percent of book club members barely finish the books but still show up just for the snacks and gossip. Honestly that's way more relatable to me anyway. I'd rather chat about real life stuff with people than pretend I got past chapter three of some dense novel I picked up at Target.
