Rant: My aunt called a succulent a cactus and I couldn't help but correct her.

I'm torn between wanting to teach people about plants and not wanting to seem rude, so what's your view?

Ugh, I did that with a cactus once.

Yikes, @ruby322, that cactus story is too real. It's part of a whole thing where we assume we're in control until something pokes us. The world loves giving us these sharp little reminders.

It's not always about missing soft warnings though... sometimes the world just throws a cactus in your path. Like when your car breaks down on the way to a big meeting, or you get a flat tire in the rain. Those aren't blind spots, they're just bad luck that pokes holes in your plans. The lesson isn't always about us, sometimes it's just that sharp things hurt.

Actually, it's funny how we sometimes lean into the poke without seeing it coming (like when we're so sure we've got everything handled). Those sharp reminders aren't just random, they're often because we miss the soft warnings first. We focus so hard on being in charge that we don't notice the tiny signs telling us to slow down. Then bam, the cactus gets us, and it feels like the world's fault. But maybe it's more about our own blind spots than the world being out to get us. That's what makes those little jabs so effective, they show us where we're not looking.
