Vent: Those self-watering pots messed up my snake plant

Bought into the hype for low-maintenance plants. Everyone recommends them for beginners. Mine sat in wet soil for weeks. Roots started to rot. Now I just use a regular pot and check it myself. Much simpler.

Oh man, I feel this... I bought one of those pots with the little water meter thing. That meter was always stuck on 'dry' even when the soil was a swamp. My poor peace lily got so sad and droopy before I figured it out. Now I just use my finger to check... turns out my finger is a much smarter gadget.

My snake plant lost three leaves before I gave up on those pots. Jadej50 is right, we overcomplicate simple things like watering. I trust my own eyes and a basic terracotta pot now.

Wait, is it really that deep though? Plants die sometimes, it happens. Just stick your finger in the dirt next time.

Sometimes we make stuff way harder than it needs to be lol. Foster.tessa's story about the broken meter just proves the point.
