I was team envelope system until I tried digital buckets

Always thought cash envelopes were the only way to stop overspending, but after 6 months with a separate checking account for bills and one for fun money I haven't bounced a single payment. Anyone else make the switch and find it easier?

Did you ever worry about losing track with digital buckets instead of actual cash? I was the exact same way, swore by envelopes for years and thought tracking apps would never work for me. Once I switched to separate accounts though, it just clicked - way less hassle than driving to the bank or stuffing cash in jars. Glad to hear it's working out for you too, feels good to finally get that peace of mind without the paper cuts.

My sister actually tried to get me on the digital bucket thing back in 2022 and I laughed at her. Told her no way some app was gonna replace my stack of labeled envelopes on the kitchen counter. But then I messed up and forgot to grab my "groceries" envelope one time and ended up overdrawing my checking account by like 40 bucks. That stupid bank fee was the kick I needed. Now I got five separate accounts with automatic transfers on payday and I haven't touched an envelope in over a year. Still feels weird sometimes but I'll take a few taps on my phone over scrambling for cash any day.

@sean_green44 that's a valid concern. Did you ever accidentally overdraft one of the digital buckets?

Did you mean to reply to jana881 instead of sean_green44? You kinda mashed their stories together there, lol.
