I used to blast generic emails to everyone in my database, now I send 5 personalized ones
Back in 2021, I was sending 500 emails a week to my list for my landscaping business in Austin. One day my open rate was 8% and I realized I was just shouting into the void. Now I spend an hour each Monday picking 5 people from my list who actually need my services and writing custom notes for each. Has anyone else found that less volume but more targeting works way better for local service marketing?

Hold on, is sending five emails a week really that much better than just having a solid subject line? Sounds like you might be overthinking it, but hey, if it works for you.

@alicecraig are you saying you think quality beats quantity then? Like one killer subject line is worth more than a bunch of emails?

Ditch the subject line focus. It's not about one magic phrase. The whole email needs to feel personal. When you blast 500 people, even a decent subject line can't fix the fact that the content is generic. People see right through that. Picking 5 people and writing something specific to them shows you actually looked at their situation. That builds trust way faster than any clever wording ever will. Better to hit hard with 5 than miss with 500.
