I finally caved and bought a Filson jacket after 2 years of scoffing at the price
I live in Seattle so I see these things everywhere and always thought they were overhyped for $400. But then I found one at a thrift store near Pike Place for $50, beat to hell, and after washing it I realized the canvas is seriously thick and the zipper is still smooth as butter. Has anyone else been converted by finding a used one cheap?

Bruh same thing happened to me with a Patagonia Synchilla I found at Goodwill for $12. It had some pilling and a tiny hole near the hem but after a few washes it's literally my favorite jacket. That raw canvas fabric is no joke, once you feel how solid it is you kinda get why people drop that much on a new one.

I've patched two Patagonia Better Sweaters from the thrift store now, both with small holes in similar spots near the hem. A little bit of Tenacious Tape on the inside and a few stitches with regular thread has kept them going strong for years. The fleece they use does pill, but it's a minor thing if you use a fabric shaver for like 5 minutes every few months. Just don't machine dry them too hot or the pilling gets worse faster. Your mileage may vary on how much you care about the looks, but the durability is real once you break them in.
