A customer in Portland told me my shutter count method was garbage
Some guy named Dave who used to work at Canon dropped off a F-1 for a CLA and saw me using a phone app to check shutter actuations. He said those apps are off by like 30% on mechanical cameras and showed me his method of counting from the sound of the mirror slap on a recording. How do you guys actually estimate shutter wear on older bodies without electronic counters?

man that sucks, Dave sounds like a real piece of work for calling you out like that in front of a customer.

honestly the more I think about it, the more I wonder if Dave was just trying to show off in front of the customer. like some managers think humiliating their own employee makes them look tough or in control, but it just makes them look like a jerk.

2 months ago my buddy Mark got chewed out by his manager in front of a customer at Best Buy because he couldn't find the HDMI cables. Turns out they were in a locked cabinet that nobody told him about. He quit the next day and now drives a forklift at a warehouse making way more money. Dave sounds like he's on that same energy.
