Traded my old brass calipers for a digital set, kind of regretting it

I mean, I picked up a set of digital calipers at a swap meet in Portland about 6 months ago. They're super precise and read out in thousandths right away. But idk, I keep reaching for my old brass Mitutoyo ones instead, just feels more solid in my hand when I'm checking a shutter curtain gap. Has anyone else gone back to analog tools after trying digital?

Wait you traded a set of vintage brass Mitutoyo calipers for a digital set from a swap meet? HOLD UP. Those old brass Mitutoyos are basically collector items at this point. Ive seen them go for serious money at estate sales in the Bay Area. The way those things hold their zero after decades is pure witchcraft compared to some cheap digital that drifts if you look at it wrong. I get wanting precision but digital calipers always feel like theyre gonna break if you drop them once. Brass calipers have that satisfying heft and they just WORK even if the battery dies in the middle of a job. You might have made a real mistake there buddy.

I've been burned by cheap digital calipers too, had a set die mid-project because the battery contacts corroded. Stick a few spare 357s in your toolbox, but honestly those cheap digitals are never worth trading real brass Mitutoyos for.
