That $15 reflective tarp I mocked actually saved my tent setup last weekend
I laughed at my buddy in Flagstaff for strapping this cheap tarp to his pack, but when the cold front hit at 2am, the radiant heat bounce kept us 8 degrees warmer while my fancy insulated pad did nothing, has anyone else found junk gear that outworks the name brand stuff?

I had a buddy swear by a beat up dollar store rain poncho for years. We were in a downpour on the AT and his whole pack stayed dry while my fancy $80 cover leaked. He just shrugged and said it's all plastic to him.

All plastic to him" but I'd still find a way to soak myself in a shower cap.
