Still stuck on that conversation with a student at Berkeley last spring
She told me my opinion didn't matter because I wasn't a student there, and I can't shake how that shut down any real talk before it even started - anyone else had someone pull that gatekeeping move on you at a campus event?

Used to think gatekeeping was no big deal, just people being protective of their space. But after getting shut out of a local panel discussion just because I wasn't in the industry yet, it changed my mind real fast. Shutting people out like that kills the whole point of having a conversation in the first place.

Totally disagree. It helps keep the discussion focused and meaningful for actual professionals.
