I got a $4,100 bonus on a Tuesday and quit by Friday, worst week of my career
So back in March I was working at this insurance call center in Des Moines and I hit the best numbers of my life, like top 3 out of 60 people on the floor. My manager pulls me into a room on a Tuesday and tells me I'm getting a $4,100 bonus on my next check, and I'm thinking finally, this job is worth it. Then two days later they roll out a new schedule where I'd have to work every Saturday from 7am to 4pm for the same pay, and I just sat there in the break room staring at the vending machine. I walked out on Friday without another job lined up, which was dumb, and my rent was $1,150 due in two weeks. My old coworker Denise texted me three times that weekend asking if I was okay and I lied and said I had a plan. I ended up doing overnight stocking at a grocery store for seven weeks before I found anything in my field, and honestly the bonus covered part of it but I still ate a lot of ramen. Has anyone else walked away from money like that and had it actually work out, or did you regret it like I kind of did?
Laughed at the vending machine part because I did the same thing at a pizza place when they cut my hours after I got employee of the month. My big move was quitting a $19/hr job with $600 in my account, then I DoorDashed for two months and hit a curb in a snowstorm, so the car repair ate the whole thing. You at least had Denise checking on you, mine was just my mom asking why I looked tired at Thanksgiving. Seven weeks of ramen beats seven months though, so you came out okay.
