Overheard a coworker say 'just do your job', made me rethink my whole resume
I was in the break room at my office in Portland last Tuesday and this guy from accounting told someone that nobody cares about your passion, they just want the work done. At first I wanted to argue, but then I looked at my own resume and it's full of words like 'passionate' and 'driven' with zero actual numbers. I counted 11 soft skills and only 2 measurable wins, like how I cut a report time from 4 hours to 90 minutes. That one sentence hit harder than any feedback I've gotten from recruiters in 3 years of job hunting. Has anyone else stripped their resume down to just task-specific results and seen more callbacks?
