Spent 6 hours fixing a leak under a sink that I thought would take 30 minutes
I had a tenant call me about a slow drip under their kitchen sink last Tuesday. Figured it was just a loose pipe fitting, maybe 30 minutes of work and done. Got over there and found out the whole shut off valve was corroded and wouldn't twist at all. Had to cut the pipe, replace the valve, then deal with the drain pipe that started leaking after I bumped it. Ended up making three trips to the hardware store because I kept guessing wrong on the parts size. Took me from 2pm until almost 8pm to finish, and that's not counting the cleanup. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a full day project like that?

Oh man, does that sound familiar? I tried to swap out a toilet flapper once - one of those easy ten minute jobs - and ended up having to replace the entire fill valve because the old one snapped clean off when I took the flapper off. The water was spraying everywhere while I was sitting there with a wet shirt trying to find the main shut off. I swear, every time I think something will be quick, the pipes have other plans. You're not alone in that 6 hour nightmare, trust me.
