Stripped a stair stringer in Milwaukee last Tuesday

I was framing a set of stairs for a house in Milwaukee and totally messed up the first stringer. Cut the wrong angle on the first tread and ended up with a gap bigger than my thumb. Had to scrap it and start over on a new piece, cost me an extra $30 and two hours of daylight. Anyone else ruin more lumber than they save by rushing the layout?

Nah rushing saved me way more time than perfect layouts ever did.

Aw man, I've done this exact thing more times than I care to count. Wasted a whole sheet of 3/4" plywood last month because I tried to cut corners on a layout for a closet shelf. Ended up with two pieces too short to use for anything but blocking. Sometimes you just gotta slow down and double check everything before you make the cut.

Man, do you actually add up the time you save though?
