My bank called me after I used my card at a protest in Seattle last month.

They asked if I was okay and then suggested using cash for 'sensitive transactions', which made me wonder who else gets to see my purchase history and decide what's sensitive.

Honestly, that's pretty messed up. I'd be more worried about the bank making those calls than the purchase history itself. It feels like they're quietly judging what you spend your own money on. My old credit union never did that, and it makes me wonder what other triggers they have set up.

Yeah, the "quietly judging" part is what gets me. It's not about safety, it's about them building a profile on what they think is normal spending. Next they'll be offering "helpful" products based on what they think you can't handle.

Man, my bank would have a field day with my history. They'd probably call me weekly to ask if I'm okay after my 3 AM pizza orders or my impulse buy of a neon garden gnome. If protesting gets you a check-in, I should get a whole therapy session for my bad choices. Makes you wonder what their list of "sensitive" stuff even looks like.
