Switched from rods to a rotary system for a tricky flue in Denver

I always stuck with my old steel rods for every job, thinking they were the only real way to get a proper clean. Then I got called to a historic home with a super narrow, offset flue that my rods just couldn't navigate properly. Has anyone else made the switch for specific jobs, and what system do you like?

Which rotary system did you end up buying?

That "only real way" feeling is a trap we fall into with all kinds of tools. You get good with one method and it becomes your whole identity, even when a better option is right there. I see it with guys who refuse to switch from corded drills or chefs who only use one knife for everything. Sometimes the job itself forces the upgrade, and that's okay.

Totally agree, it's like comfort food for your skills. You get so used to the old way that learning something new feels like a step back at first. The trick is seeing the new tool as a different tool, not a replacement for your old friend.

My grandpa still swears by his corded drill.
