TIL my old Nokia 3310 still gets reception better than my iPhone in the basement
I had to choose between keeping my iPhone 14 or dusting off my old Nokia 3310 for calls at home. My basement is basically a dead zone for modern phones, but that brick from 2001 pulls in full bars like it's nothing. I ended up using the Nokia as a dedicated house phone since I found it in a drawer last week. It's been 6 years since I last charged it, but the battery still held a three-day charge. Honestly, it's wild how much simpler and tougher those old gadgets were. Has anyone else noticed their retro phones outlasting new ones in spotty signal areas?

9 times out of 10 I drop my phone and shatter the screen, but my old Nokia 3310 took a tumble down a full flight of stairs back in 2003 and literally just snapped back together like nothing happened. I swear that thing was built to outlive me, and honestly it probably will. The signal thing is real too, my iPhone 14 Pro Max has to sit on a specific counter in my kitchen to even get one bar, but that Nokia pulls in a crystal clear call from inside my laundry room which is basically a concrete bunker. Snake is the only game I need and the battery lasting a week is just showing off at this point. Maybe I'm the problem and the real fancy antenna is just my own dumb wallet getting emptied every year for a phone that can barely make a call.

My 2005 Motorola Razr does the exact same thing in my parents' basement. They live in a pretty rural area and my Pixel 7 just gives up down there, but that old flip phone pulls in three bars like it's nothing. I found it in a box with the original charger and it still held a charge for almost a week after sitting for like 8 years. It's just crazy that a phone from almost 20 years ago can outperform something built with 5G and all these fancy antennas. I honestly think the older radios were just built different, less complicated and way more durable.
