Neighbor told me my lawn was killing the lake and I switched to native plants

Last spring my neighbor Karen straight up said my Kentucky bluegrass was leaking fertilizer into the local creek that feeds Lake Whatcom. I laughed it off at first but then I looked up how much runoff comes from residential lawns. Decided to rip out 800 square feet of grass and put in native ferns and wildflowers instead. Now I water maybe twice a month instead of every other day and the bees actually show up. Has anyone else had a neighbor call them out on something like this and actually change their whole yard?

Bro honestly your neighbor Karen sounds both annoying and terrifyingly correct, which is the worst combo. I bet she's the type to show up with a clipboard and data next time. But hey now you're basically a bee landlord with way less watering guilt, so who's really winning here? I'm half tempted to go yell at my own lawn just to see if it magically transforms into a meadow out of spite.

Hold up, are we really acting like yelling at grass is a serious life strategy now?

Lmao "bee landlord" is killing me, I'm gonna start using that. Actually your comment about yelling at the lawn reminded me of this time my roommate got super into those plant speaker experiments, you know the ones where they hook up electrodes to leaves. He went full conspiracy mode and started playing classical music to our basil plant at 3am because he read somewhere it helps growth. The plant died anyway but the weirdest part was our cat started sitting in front of the speaker like she was waiting for a show.
