I tried to make a 'perfect' pour over for my date last week and it was a total disaster
So I had this person over and wanted to show off my coffee skills, right? I got my V60, my fancy scale, the whole deal. I was explaining the bloom phase and everything. But I was so nervous I poured the water way too fast and basically made a muddy, bitter mess. She took a sip and just said, 'It's... strong.' I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I think I overdid it trying to be impressive. Anyone else ever completely bomb a coffee moment they were trying to make special?

Watched my buddy try to dial in a new espresso machine for his in-laws. He messed up the grind so bad it choked the machine, then served them what looked like motor oil. His father-in-law just quietly put the cup down and asked for tea instead.

See this happen all the time with new gadgets. People get so focused on the fancy features they forget the basics. It's a good reminder that simple usually works better.
