TIL that learning to spot art changes ruined event comics for me
I used to read event comics without a care. Then I got into fan forums and learned to track artist shifts. Now I can't unsee when a fill-in artist takes over mid-arc. It jars me out of the story every time. I picked this up from dissecting books with other fans. Now I'm known as the art police at my local shop. It's made me pickier, but also more loyal to consistent creative teams. Would I go back to being clueless? Probably not, but it's a mixed bag.

Ugh, same. I just focus on the story now.

Wow, I never thought about it that way before.

Totally, I heard comic artists often burn out, @hayden_ramirez, so focusing on the story helps.

Back in 2012, I was reading the Avengers vs. X-Men event and first noticed the artist swaps... It bugged me too, but then I talked to a guy at a con who worked in comics. He said fill-ins are often because artists need more time to do good work... So now when I see a change, I think about the crazy deadlines they must be under. It doesn't always fix the jarring feel, but it adds a layer of respect for the craft... In a way, being the art police made me see the human side of making comics. Still ruins the flow sometimes, but I can't ignore the hard work behind it.
