I finally stopped using a garden hose for my float water
For years I'd just run a cheap hose from the spigot and drag it through the mud. Last month in Phoenix, the heat made the hose water way too hot and it set the surface way too fast. Now I keep a dedicated 5-gallon cooler with ice water just for my float, and the difference in work time is huge. Anyone else have a weird old habit they finally broke?

Ever think about using a small pump to move that cold water from the cooler? Might save you some trips back and forth...

Actually saw a video where someone rigged up a small solar pump for that exact thing. Looked pretty clever for keeping plants watered too.

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth to me. You're adding another piece of gear that can break or clog. For the amount of water we're talking about, just carrying it is simple and reliable. I'd rather make a few extra trips than deal with setting up and maintaining a pump system. Sometimes the low tech solution is the best one.
