Am I the only one who lost a whole week to a single RFI about door hardware
So I had this one RFI on a 6 story job in Aurora that should have been a 10 minute phone call. The specs called for a certain fire rating on the corridor doors but the schedule listed a different hardware set, and the sub would not order anything until it got answered in writing. I sent it to the architect on a Monday thinking I would have an answer by lunch. Instead it bounced between the architect, the door supplier, and the fire marshal for 9 days while my sub sat on his hands and the drywall crew walked right past the openings. I finally got the answer on a Wednesday afternoon and it was literally what I suggested in my original RFI, they just needed the marshal to sign off on it. I felt like an idiot for not just calling the marshal myself on day one, but the paper trail mattered on this one. We still lost 4 days of schedule and I had to shuffle the punch list around to cover it. How do you all handle RFIs that get stuck when you know the answer but need the stamp?
Had a similar mess with a garage door on a retail build where the inspector and the engineer just kept passing it back and forth for a week. Turned out they were both waiting on each other to make the first move, so now I just call whoever's name is on the stamp and say I need a yes or no.
