Chose a $2,200 drone over a $9,000 boom lift for a facade check, saved 3 days
Last month on a job in Reno we had to inspect a 6 story hotel facade. The foreman wanted to rent a boom lift for the full check. I pushed for using a drone we already owned for a quick scan first. We did the drone pass, found the cracked panels in 2 hours, and only needed a small ladder for the ground level stuff. Skipped the rental entirely. My question is, how often do you guys bother with the fancy equipment when a simpler tool gets the same answer? Has anyone else talked their crew out of a big rental and it backfired?
Ever had a camera drone save you from driving three hours for a single bolt? I have, and it worked, but then the client wanted a video of the whole building, so we spent half a day re-flying it anyway. Sometimes the simple answer just leads to a bigger ask.
