Tape measure reading trick from an old foreman changed my layout game
I kept messing up interior wall layouts on a duplex in Columbus because I was doing math twice for every measurement. He showed me to just mark the tape body itself against the plate instead of trying to read the hook end, saved me about 2 hours a day after a week of practice. Anyone else got small habits like that that just click once you see them?

That foreman trick is solid and it works because your eye reads the body edge easier than the hook, which can slip or bend. The next step is to stop moving the tape at all when you can. Hook it once, then use the body as a story pole for the whole wall, marking studs and openings off that same reference. You cut your chances of adding wrong twice, which is where most layout mistakes come from anyway. After a while you just trust the marks and stop double checking every number.
