Dropped $90 on a fancy thermal hood dryer and it barely works for thick hair
I bought one of those high-end hood dryers from a salon supply store downtown, thinking it would speed up my processing time for perms and deep treatments. Turns out the heat distribution is super uneven, like hot in one spot and cold in another (which is awful for processing). My $25 old-school one from years ago actually gave better coverage, go figure. Has anyone else had luck with a specific hood dryer that doesn't cost a fortune?

Wait, are you using it with a plastic cap on or without? I learned that lesson the hard way. My friend swears by those cheap soft bonnet dryers that clip onto your regular hair dryer. She's got super thick hair too and says the key is to keep moving the hose around every few minutes. Not gonna lie, I borrowed hers once and it felt like a hack but the air flow was actually decent. I know it sounds silly but sometimes the old stuff just works better for no real reason.

Stick with the soft bonnet dryer that clips onto your regular dryer, those things are WAY more reliable than most of the expensive models. I've got thick hair too and the trick is to keep the hose moving every 3-4 minutes to spread the heat around evenly. That old $25 setup probably had a simpler motor that just pushed heat more consistently without fancy features messing it up.
