Started noticing more guys taking quick mental breaks up high
I used to push straight through my shifts without a pause, but my mind would get fuzzy after hours. Now, I stop for a couple minutes after tough picks to just breathe and look out the window. It sounds silly, but it really helps me reset before the next move. Last month, doing this kept me calm when a load started swinging in a gust. A few other operators on site have started doing similar things, like listening to quiet music. It's a simple trick that cuts down on the stress of being precise all day. Lol, never thought I'd be into taking breaks, but here we are.

Totally get what you mean about that load swinging in a gust. I used to be the same way, just powering through until my brain felt like mush. Now I take two minutes to stare at the sky or just sit quiet, and it CHANGES everything. My focus comes back so much sharper, and I've caught little things I would have missed before. It's wild how such a small pause can make the job feel way less tense.

Try the short break trick. It stops those small slips before they happen. Just smart work.

Honestly, I was the same guy who thought breaks were for slackers. Tbh, after seeing what @the_leo said about it cutting mistakes, I tried a two-minute pause to just lean back and clear my head. Ngl, it's crazy how much sharper I feel for the next task, like my eyes actually focus better.
