Finally realized I was paying for credit monitoring I didn't need...
I signed up for a $29/month credit monitoring service about 2 years ago after a data breach scare. Last week I actually logged in to check my score and realized my bank's app gives me the same VantageScore and alerts for free. Called to cancel and they tried to sell me on their 'premium identity theft insurance' but I just kept saying no thanks. Has anyone else had that moment where you look at a subscription and wonder why you ever paid for it in the first place?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with a $35/month Lifelock plan back in 2021... kept paying for like 18 months before I realized my credit union gives me the same credit score and dark web alerts completely free. When I called to cancel, the guy on the phone kept pushing this "family protection plan" and I just kept saying "no thank you" over and over until he finally gave up. It's wild how easy it is to autopilot those payments and not even think about what you're actually getting for the money. Now I just use the free stuff from my bank and Credit Karma and honestly I haven't missed the paid service at all.

The autopilot thing is so real. I catch myself doing it with streaming services and random apps too. It's like we just set it and forget it until something jolts us awake. @rileygarcia is right though, it stings when you add it all up. $35 a month for almost two years adds up to a nice little vacation or something you actually want. Its scary how companies count on us just zoning out on those recurring charges.

@the_terry 18 months of Lifelock? That's brutal, I'd be so mad at myself lol
